English abstract

The thesis deals with the analysis of possible ways of earth fault detection in MV networks and it is focused on the ways of fault location. It summarizes the known theoretical principles of earth fault detection, both methods of detecting the faulted feeder and methods of the location of the affected part of the feeder. Also the analysis of the Heafely-Trench method is done. This method describes the application of zero sequence current ratio for earth fault location in a circular network. The following part of the work includes the analysis of a modified Haefely-Trench method combined with the injecting of remote control signal that is used mainly for electrical heating control. The proposed solution makes use of already existing equipment in its normal operating modes. The final part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis and measurement of a real loaded MV network with an earth fault at normal operation, it takes into account both low resistance faults and high resistance and arc faults. The measured and calculated values are compared. All the measured and calculated values are tabulated in the appendix of the thesis. The appendix contains also the description of software used for the calculations. The results of the work can serve as a basis for a technical and economical analysis that will consider the practical application of this method.
