Original Abstract

Contribution presents several selected examples of different engineering approaches used for effective optimization of industrial heat transfer equipment. Maple software is used as mathematical tool for solution of presented examples. First example is optimisation of plate-type heat exchanger for "gas-gas" application from optimum total costs (including operating, investment and maintenance cost) solved by NLP methods. Another example is devoted to solution of shell-and-tube heat exchanger. Optimum design of this equipment from minimization fouling point of view is solved. For solution is used graphical "direct sizing" method completed with fouling predictive method. This combination gives robust tool for quick and right identification of best equipment design option from minimum fouling point of view. Other two presented examples are devoted to combustion heat transfer equipment such as combustion chamber or process tubular furnaces. One example is devoted to optimum design of tubular coil placed in combustion chamber for achieving minimum total cost (including operating, investment and maintenance cost) of whole equipment (i.e. combustion chamber, burners, tube coil and stack). Another example solve optimum arrangement of process tubular furnace (i.e. arrangement of combustion chamber with tube coils and burners followed by convective sections containing other tube banks and followed by a stack) again from minimum total cost point of view.
