Original Abstract

Lubricant film thickness distribution within the whole concentrated smooth or dented contact is evaluated from chromatic interferograms by thin film colorimetric interferometry. Consequently, measured film thickness is used to determine the distribution of pressure in EHL contact. EHL film thickness measurements were made using a modified version of the automatic system for the real-time evaluation of EHL film thickness. Inverse elasticity theory approach was used in order to calculate the distribution of the contact pressure from film thickness.
