Original Abstract

This paper presents a comparison of two-dimensional edge detection methods in a phase-sensitive OTDR (Φ-OTDR) system to detect an intruder. The image is composed of consecutive Rayleigh backscattering traces, and Sobel and Prewitt operators are used to detect the vertical edges, which correspond to vibrations on the optical fiber. The performance of the methods is evaluated on three different perturbation scenarios using the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and spatial resolution (SR).
