Original Abstract

A new equipment for catalytic destruction of pollutants from waste gases, especially VOC (volatile organic compounds), CFC (chlorofluorocarbons) and HAP (hazardous air pollutants) was developed. This equipment consists of three main parts: combustion chamber, catalytic bed and coaxial heat exchanger. Advantages of this equipment consist in compactness and minimum heat losses. Experimental facility provides possibility to measure all-important parameters. A mathematical model of catalytic bed (based on reactor with plug flow) was created. This model makes it possible to calculate a volume of catalyst, which is necessary for total destruction of pollutants from waste gases at required temperature in combustion chamber. A lot of measurements have been performed with the aid to obtain a database for evaluation of optimum parameters and volume of catalyst. Mathematical model of catalytic bed enables to calculate parameters like activation energy and frequency factor. These constants are used for many operation modes. CFD modelling was used for optimisation of the equipment and all operation regimes.
