Original Abstract

The alkali-silica reaction (ASR) is a frequent cause of breakage in concrete constructions. This article deals with the causes of ASR and presents the results of aggregate tests for ASR risk assessment. Tests of the properties of concrete used on concrete pavements on a selected section of the D1 motorway in the Czech Republic were performed. The mechanical properties of the concrete on the upper and lower layer of the concrete pavement were determined and the resistance of the cement concrete surface to water and defrosting chemicals was determined.
