This contribution deals with the basic principles of aluminum-ion batteries and their theoretical advantages in comparison with other types of metal-ion batteries, particularly with commercially used lithium-ion batteries. The work also focuses on the current state and future perspectives of research on electrode materials and electrolytes for this type of accumulators.
