Original Abstract

This paper presents a novel compensation approach of the dead-time effects for PMSM drives. The dead-time and other nonlinearities of the VSI are necessary to compensate because the deformation of the VSI output voltage is caused. This voltage deformation is indicated by the occurrence of the multiples of 5th and 7th parasitic harmonics in ab-axes currents and multiples of 6th parasitic harmonics in dq-axes currents. It causes torque pulsation and generally reduces the effectiveness of the control algorithm. For this purpose, the disturbance voltages are estimated by observer that is developed based on the Kalman filter algorithm, known PMSM parameters, and easily measurable variables. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by simulation results.
