Original Abstract

Due to increasing impact of ventilation and air-conditioning to the total energy consumption of buildings, a significant attention has been paid to natural ventilation and passive cooling in the last decade. The use of solar chimneys in buildings is a way to decrease energy consumption for ventilation. The full-scale solar chimneys have been built and tested at the Department of Thermodynamics and Environmental Engineering at the Brno University of Technology. Two different structures of the solar chimney construction have been tested; a light weight construction and the construction with thermal storage. The main goal of the experiments is to investigate the performance of the solar chimneys under climatic conditions of the Czech Republic.
