Original Abstract

Carotenogenic yeast strains are naturally occurring microorganisms that in real environment adapt to wide spectrum of substrates and conditions. Those yeasts can be found in soil, fresh and marine water, on the surface of plants, commonly associated with animals and man-made habitant. Red yeast strains are potentially significant producers of lipids and various lipid-soluble metabolites. Lipid and carotenoid enriched biomass can be used for biodiesel production or as source of PUFAs and carotenoids in animal feeding supplements. Composition of biomass is depending on cultivation time and conditions.
