Origami as Determining Method of Spatial Architectural Design

Reagujeme na aktuálny záujem o skladané origamické štruktúry ako inšpiráciu architektonického návrhu dvomi prípadovými štúdiami návrhov v mierke bytového zariadenia. V prvej štúdii skúmame na návrhoch polypropylénových svietidiel taktilné návrhové metódy ako alternatívu ku kresbovému hľadaniu tvaru. V druhej práci skúmame geometrické a topografické zákonitosti rozvinuteľnosti a zložiteľnosti skladaných stolov do plochy pri zachovaní ich funkčných kvalít. Špeciálnu pozornosť venujeme dôsledkom použitia doskového materiálu s nezanedbateľnou hrúbkou. Prototypy vyrábame s použitím CNC hornej frézky. Na návrhoch svietidiel vidíme široké priestorotvorné a tvaroslovné možnosti skladaných štruktúr ako aj zhodu priestoru hmoty a tvaru. Štúdie stolov ukázali, že sme dnes schopní tvorivej kontroly nad návrhom skladaných štruktúr s kinetickými vlastnosťami.

In reaction to recent interest in folded origamic structures in architectural design we propose two case studies of interior elements. In the first study we examine tactile design methods on the design of polypropylene lighting fittings as an alternative to the search for shape by drawing. In the second work we design foldable tables out of material with non-neglegible thickness. Tactile folding as design method shows to be a beneficial part of future architects education. It gives the authors an intuitive relationship with the geometry that is otherwise difficult to grasp. The design of the lighting fittings shows wide space and shape-forming possibilities of folded structures. We state a harmony of the material, space and shape of the resulting structures. The studies of tables have shown that we have creative control over the design of folded structures with kinetic characteristics.
