Original Abstract

During development and verification of plastic inserts for concrete sleepers it has been necessary to analyse parameters of stresses and deformations of the system sleeper – insert – coach screw. The paper presents static calculations carried out in the process starting from design of models and ending with obtained results using finite element method. Static analysis of the system insert-coach screw- concrete was divided into two parts. At first, two types of coach screws and inserts fixed in a concrete cube of an edge length 200 mm were compared. Due to extent of models the concrete properties have been simplified. In the second stage the propagation of fissures in concrete in the vicinity of insert due to pre-stressing force were investigated. The results obtained by calculations on a model designed by finite element method were compared with results of laboratory tests, carried out on test cubes. The tests were carried out in the manufacturer’s laboratory. After the tests, the test cubes were cut and the types of plastic insert failures were investigated.
