Original Abstract

This paper deals with the application of formal models in natural language processing. The goal is to propose formal tools that can be used in translation, based on the idea of synchronous grammars. To describe non-context-free structures and dependencies found in natural languages, we extend the principle of synchronization to models with regulated rewriting. We present new definitions, and show simple examples of possible application in translating Japanese sentence structure to Czech.
