Original Abstract

The article is about experiments on fatigue crack propagation in shear modes II, III and their combination in ferritic and austenitic steel. Cylindrical bars with circumferential notch are loaded by pure shear and a description of the experiment is presented. The purpose is measuring of stress intensity factor threshold values in mode II and III and 3D reconstruction of fracture surfaces. Different modifications of the experiment are performed in terms of pre-crack creating and shielding effects rate. The results will be also used for specifying of conditions under which crack deviates from mode II or III into opening mode I.
