Original Abstract

This paper presents results of breakdown phenomenon in the DC diaphragm discharge generated in water solutions of various electrolytes. The determined breakdown voltage beheld into the range of 1100-1300 V in wide range of studied solution conductivities (50-1400 mikro S/cm) independently on the electrolyte kind, the recorded breakdown current was 20-50 mA. Both voltage and current values during the breakdown were more or less constant in the particular region of selected conductivities (approximately 200-1400 mikro S/cm), these values were only slightly increasing (in the case of current) or decreasing (in the case of voltage), respectively, with the increasing solution conductivity (i.e. electrolyte concentration). Beyond this "stable" region, the breakdown characteristics were strongly dependent on the conductivity and partially on the solution kind, too. Comparison of various electrolytes dissolved in the treated solution show only a slight influence on the breakdown characteristics.
