Original Abstract

The durability of reinforced concrete structures is generally jeopardized by environmental action, among others by ambient acid gases. A rather common and serious stressor is the effect of carbon dioxide. It is always present in the atmosphere and its concentration is pronounced in the vicinity of its sources – in industrial and densely populated regions. Being heavier than the air the higher concentration of CO2 may be expected in layers near the terrain surface.
