Original Abstract

Selected organic dyes dissolved in water were treated by DC diaphragm discharge. Discharge reactor was divided by a dielectric barrier into two electrode spaces. Only a small pinhole (diameter of 0.25 mm) connected both spaces. Electrical discharge appeared just in this pinhole. Significantly higher decomposition was observed in the anode space. Increasing input power enhanced dye decoloration in both electrode spaces. Degradation efficiency of 60 % was obtained for Direct Blue 106 solution treated by discharge (170 W) for 40 minutes. Influence of different molecule structure on the dye removal by diaphragm discharge is discussed as well.
