Towards Early Rail Crack Detection: Characterizing Stress Wave Behavior through Experimentation and FE Modeling
English Title

Paper in proceedings (conference paper)
Original Abstract
As key components of the railway network, switches are exposed to significant mechanical stress, which can lead to gradual wear or damage that is not always easily detectable by conventional methods. Common methods include visual inspection, ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, etc. Acoustic emission as a diagnostic tool enables early detection of microstructural changes in rail material, which is essential for accident prevention and optimization of railway network maintenance.
