Generating immersive trip photograph visualizations

Generation of immersive trip photograph visualizations as implemented by a computing device is described to provide a viewer of photographs from a trip with an immersive experience as if the viewer were in the space where the trip trip took place. In one example, a set of photographs taken on a trip in which a user followed a path through a geographical area is obtained. An indication of the geographical area where the set of photographs were captured is also received. Both a location and an orientation of ones of the the set of photographs within a three dimensional terrain model of the geographical area is determined. An indication of user-selected photographs of the set of photographs is also received, and a fly-through view through the three dimensional terrain model is generated. The fly-through view is along the path through the geographical area, and includes each of the user-selected photographs as well as data from the three dimensional terrain model that fills in data beyond the user-selected photographs.
