Original Abstract

The article describes an experimental investigation of start-up of smooth friction-al surfaces under the conditions of mixed and elastohydrodynamic lubrication. Start-up is a transient phenomenon where frictional surfaces are not fully sepa-rated by a continuous layer of lubricant. Therefore in this case exists a real risk of wear which results in failure of components. This study summaries relevant stud-ies and extends it with experiments. The evaluation of the experiment was made by chromatic interferometry. This method is used to measure thin lubrication films. Experiment for different values of acceleration confirms the findings of previously studies

Keywords
