Original Abstract

This paper presents a structure for implementing an image processing application using the residue number system (RNS). The application is dedicated for applying a number of spatial filters on a gray scale image. All the calculations needed for filtering are applied using the RNS. The efficiency of using the RNS instead of binary number system is illustrated via the implementation results. The RNS-based application runs at higher frequencies and has less power consumption. This paper also mentions the negative effects of using an improper moduli-set and compares the filtering process of the proposed design with another based on an improper moduli set in RNS.
