BUT CARDS MANUAL FOR STUDENTS

Last updated: April 19, 2024

STUDENT CARD TYPES AT BUT

BUT students can have one of the following types of cards:

STUDENT CARD
I - ISIC
S - standard
T - lifetime
V - University of the Third Age

Student cards above are sorted by their proof weight from the highest to the lowest. If a student holds a valid card of a higher level, it is not necessary to issue a new, simultaneously valid card lower in the order.

If a BUT student is also a BUT employee, he/she can have 2 cards in parallel: a student card (standard or ISIC) and an employee or academic employee card.

PHOTOGRAPHS

It is possible (if the faculty allows it) to upload the photograph to the information system in electronic form. Photographs must meet the ID photograph conditions, which are described in detail in the upload form on the website https://www.vut.cz/en/intra/cards under the "Photo" tab.

The second option (for some faculties the only one) is to hand over your photo in person to the study officers, who check whether the photo corresponds to the applicant. The paper photo must be in passport format, legibly and indelibly marked on the back with the student's personal number, surname and first name. If you submit a photo to the study officer in electronic form, it must meet the requirements not only for a passport photo, but also for format (.jpg) and size (min. 414x532 px).

STANDARD STUDENT CARD

ENTITLEMENT TO A STANDARD STUDENT CARD

BUT students are entitled to one free standard student card (unless they already have a reduced-price ISIC card).

The student usually chooses the standard student card if he/she does not want an ISIC or is not entitled for an ISIC.

ORDERING A STANDARD STUDENT CARD

The student orders the standard student card electronically on the website https://www.vut.cz/en/intra/cards where the status of the order can be monitored. Once the status is "to be issued", the student will pick up the card from their study officer.

Ordering schedule

Ordering cards for the new academic year enabled from

June 1

Final date for orders and payments for cards with a guaranteed production date as of September 1

August 1

Sending cards ordered and paid for by August 1 to the faculties

September 1

BUT cannot guarantee production of cards ordered and paid for after August 1 by the beginning of the academic year.

PICKING UP A STANDARD STUDENT CARD

As soon as the status of the card in the order application is "to be issued", the student will come to the study department (or follow the instructions of the study department if the faculty issues cards for 1st-year students in bulk at enrolment). Cards cannot be sent by post.

EXTENDING THE VALIDITY OF A STANDARD STUDENT CARD

The validity of the standard student card is extended by affixing a free BUT standard revalidation stamp. It is not necessary to apply for it, it is sufficient to come to the study department.

ISIC CARD

The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is the only globally recognised proof of student status. The card has been issued by the ISIC Association, a global organisation under the auspices of UNESCO, for more than 65 years. The card can be issued to full-time university students or participants of one-year courses of foreign languages with full-time teaching.

ENTITLEMENT TO AN ISIC CARD

Students can voluntarily apply for a BUT ISIC student card. Only full-time students are entitled to ISIC.

First-year students can order an ISIC card only after they have been accepted to study, i.e. they have received the Dean's decision and have been transferred to study; they do not have to be enrolled.

ORDERING AN ISIC CARD

Students order the BUT ISIC card electronically on the website https://www.vut.cz/en/intra/cards. A first-year student who does not yet have a standard student card for free can obtain an ISIC card with an ISIC license at a reduced price, which is indicated in the web application.

The student can find payment information (amount to be paid, bank account number, variable symbol) in a BUT message (https://www.vut.cz/en/intra/but-messages) sent by the order application. The student must make the payment according to the instructions in this message (it must not be made to another BUT bank account, the variable symbol must be entered precisely).

If the student does not start the study or ends it shortly after the start, it is not possible to refund the already paid fee for the ISIC license.

After the student's ISIC card has been issued, they will receive information by e-mail with the card number, how to download the application, activate the profile, view and use their digital card.

DIGITAL ISIC CARD

Thanks to the mobile app, you will always have the digital BUT ISIC card at hand. It is accepted by discount providers and in transport, including the state-mandated discount for students.

Thanks to the Alive App, you will not only have a digital card, but also:

  • a simple overview of all discounts - search by location or category, the option to save your favourite discounts,
  • access to exclusive competitions or limited offers,
  • overview of current insurances and their validity,
  • notice of license expiration,
  • card number clearly and legibly always in front of your eyes.

Alive App download: Google Play and App Store.

However, the BUT digital ISIC card cannot be used within the university (it is not compatible with university chip systems). Please use your plastic ISIC card for BUT systems.

EXTENDING ISIC LISENSE FOR ANOTHER YEAR

The benefits of an ISIC license can be used for 16 months, i.e. always from September to December of the following year.

Revalidation stamp

For revalidations with a license from 09/2023 to 12/2024 the following applies:

The validity of an existing ISIC card is extended by means of a revalidation stamp (valid for licenses ending 12/2024). It can be ordered on the website https://www.vut.cz/en/intra/cards, where its price is also indicated. It is recommended to order an ISIC revalidation stamp before each academic year, but it is possible to order it at any time during the current academic year.

After order and payment, according to the instructions of the order application, come with your ISIC card to the study officer, who will affix an ISIC revalidation stamp to your ISIC card.

Digital revalidation

For revalidations with a license from 09/2024 the following applies:

The validity of an existing ISIC card is extended by digital revalidation. It can be ordered on the website https://www.vut.cz/en/intra/cards, where its price is also indicated. It is recommended to order digital revalidation before the beginning of each academic year, it is possible already from June 1 of each year.

Digital revalidation extends the validity of the digital ISIC card in the Alive App. The validity of the ISIC license on the plastic ISIC card is not extended, the card remains for use only within the university.

If the student does not pay for the digital revalidation for the new period (ordering is enabled from June 1 of each year), the current license is valid until the end of the calendar year. If the validity expires and is not extended, the license becomes invalid and the digital card ceases to be functional. It is then no longer possible to display the pass in the application and use it at discount providers and other entities. The plastic card remains functional for use within BUT.

WARNING

Duplication of cards and chips is prohibited. Chips that have been unofficially produced with the NFC chip number read from an existing card are prohibited from use and must be destroyed.

Neither BUT student card, nor BUT chip can be lent to another person. If another person finds a BUT card/chip, he/she is not allowed to use it.
