The Czech Language for Foreigners – Beginners course is designed for international staff at BUT who wish to gain a solid foundation in Czech for everyday communication and gradual integration into Czech society.

Semester: Summer Semester ( 6 February 2026 – 12 June 2026 )
This course introduces students to basic and slightly more advanced Czech vocabulary used in everyday spoken and written communication. Emphasis is placed on natural, practical language use in common social situations, enabling participants to communicate more confidently in real-life contexts.
Participants will:
learn commonly used communicative phrases in contemporary Czech,
develop the ability to communicate naturally in everyday situations,
acquire a basic understanding of Czech grammar, creating a foundation for further language study,
improve listening and reading skills,
practice correct Czech pronunciation.
The course also includes an introduction to Czech history, culture, and real-life context, helping students better understand the cultural environment in which the language is used.
Instruction is based on the English version of the modern textbook Česky krok za krokem 1, which is designed for A1–A2 levels. The textbook is supported by rich online resources, including:
Czech–English page-by-page glossary,
online exercises,
audio materials,
visual posters.
The course is particularly suitable for participants with a serious, long-term interest in learning Czech and those aiming to integrate into Czech society.
