KolejNet

The KolejNet computer network is available at all BUT halls of residence for both students and visitors. The internet connection can be established wirelessly via the eduroam Wi-Fi network, or using standard ethernet sockets directly in the rooms. Hotel guests staying at the dormitories connect to the internet via a dedicated wireless network vut.cz.

To connect to the eduroam network, you need to know your username in the format <personal ID number>@vutbr.cz and your BUT PIN.

The new KolejNet:Arrive and connect!

Starting from the 2026 academic year, there is a fundamental change in how the KolejNet network operates, aimed at simplifying internet access as much as possible. Network connectivity is now fully included in the accommodation for everyone, completely free of any additional charges beyond the standard dormitory fee.

The entire system now works without complex registrations and the need to register connected devices. The connection is provided primarily via the eduroam wireless network, complemented by wired connections in the rooms. Along with this modernization, some older services that have lost their historical significance are being phased out.

Connection via eduroam (Wi-Fi)

The main and easiest way to connect in the dormitories is the secure international academic network eduroam. The network operates on the principle of global roaming – if your account is active, you can connect at any other participating university.

Procedure for secure configuration:

  • For the correct and secure configuration of your device (mobile phone, laptop), we strongly recommend using the official configuration tool eduroam CAT.
  • Alternatively, you can use the guides and recommended software for various operating systems on the Eduroam.cz website.

Are you a BUT student or employee?

  • To log into the eduroam network, you must enter your username in the format VUT_ID@vutbr.cz (e.g., 123456@vutbr.cz or xlogin00@vutbr.cz).
  • The main password for your BUT account is not used as the password; instead, a special VUT PIN is used.
  • You can generate or change your VUT PIN after logging into the id.vut.cz portal in the VUT PIN section.
  • Detailed illustrated instructions and configuration specifications can be found in the BUT Wi-Fi documentation.

Are you a student or employee of another school?

  • You log into the eduroam network using the same credentials (username including domain and password) that you normally use at your home university or faculty.
