We are launching second year of the University-wide Doctoral School at BUT

Starting in September 2026, the second year of the University-wide Doctoral School will begin, offering support to doctoral students across faculties and research institutes. The initiative aims to supplement discipline-specific instruction with interdisciplinary skills that are essential for the quality of scientific work and the professional development of young researchers.

The program is primarily intended for first- and second-year students in doctoral programs at all faculties.

Course coordinator Martina Repková comments: “We are very pleased with the interest generated by the first year of the UT Brno University-wide Doctoral School. It has become clear that doctoral students are interested not only in developing their academic and professional competencies, but also in opportunities for networking and interdisciplinary collaboration. We are entering the second year with the ambition to further enhance the quality of doctoral education at BUT and to create an environment that will help newly enrolled doctoral students, in particular, successfully launch their doctoral studies.”

What the University-wide Doctoral School offers

The university-wide doctoral school takes the form of thematic educational modules (36 hours of in-person instruction), focused on:

  • the principles of doctoral studies and the status of doctoral students at the university,
  • the basics of scientific publishing and working with citation databases,
  • project management and research data management
  • knowledge transfer and intellectual property protection,
  • an introduction to teaching competencies
  • topics in leadership, career development, startups, and design thinking

The second year of the University-wide Doctoral School will take place from September 25 to December 11, 2026 (every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Faculty of Business and Management).

The doctoral school will also include an opening and closing informal meeting of doctoral students across the entire Brno University of Technology.

The application process will open on September 1, 2026 via the online application form at the BUT Continuing Education and Counselling Centre.
