The spring part of the BUT Junior I educational programme took children and their parents to even more laboratories and research facilities at Brno University of Technology. During the Saturday sessions, participants tried chemical experiments, programming, working with advanced materials, and technologies used in civil engineering. Registration for the next year of the programme, which will begin in September, is already open in the BUT e-shop!This year's BUT Junior is coming to an end. | Author: Radek PrajkaThe popular children's academy continued in spring at four parts of Brno University of Technology, where pupils explored science through hands-on activities and experienced what studying at a technical university looks like. At the Faculty of Chemistry, participants learned about hydrogels used in cosmetics, medicine, and agriculture, examined water quality, built their own spectroscopes, and explored the entire 3D printing process – from producing printing filament to testing the mechanical resistance of finished products.
The programme at CEITEC BUT introduced the world of biomaterials and nanotechnologies. Children visited laboratories focused on advanced ceramics, biomaterials, and nanomaterials, learning more about materials used in wound treatment, rapid bleeding control, and modern cosmetics.
At the Faculty of Information Technology, pupils created their own version of the popular Snake game using the Snap programming language, while more advanced participants also tried basic programming in the C language.
The spring programme concluded at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Children explored seven interactive stations focused on civil engineering, modern construction materials, structural design, 3D printing, geodesy, and water management in the landscape. They also had the opportunity to visit laboratories, underground facilities, and the faculty rooftop.
For the second year in a row, the BUT Junior I educational academy also included a special programme for parents. During the sessions, they learned about beer brewing and coffee chemistry, attended a popular science lecture on physics from the macro world to the nanoscale, discovered interesting facts about the history of Brno’s brickworks, and toured the faculties and institutes of Brno University of Technology.
This year's participants of BUT Junior I now have only the graduation ceremony ahead of them. It will take place in mid-June in the auditorium of the BUT Rectorate, where they will receive their graduation certificates. At the same time, the university is already preparing the next edition of the popular programme. Registration is now open and applications can be submitted through the BUT e-shop.More information about the children's educational academy can be found on the websites of BUT Junior I and BUT Junior II.Related articles:
