The fourth edition of the Rooted Everywhere art symposium will take place from 7 to 19 September 2026 at the Distillery industrial complex and the FaVU Gallery at Pekařská 78 in Brno. Organised by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology, the symposium will bring together FaVU students and alumni across generations, offering space for collaborative artistic practice, sharing experiences and developing new collaborations. The Fourth Edition of the Rooted Everywhere Symposium to Once Again Bring Together FaVU Students and Alumni | Author: FFA BUT
The symposium is based on the idea that the shared experience of studying at the same institution can form the basis for longer-term professional and personal connections. It therefore creates an opportunity for people who attended the same institution at different times to meet and opens up space for exploring collective artistic practice, sharing experiences and non-competitive forms of collaboration. “This year’s edition will bring together 29 artists from among current FaVU students and alumni, selected through an open call. Based on shared thematic areas, we divided the participants into six creative groups, in which they will work together throughout the symposium to develop new artistic projects,” say members of the organising collective všuderajče.
This year, too, the symposium will take place in two phases. The first, an internal week from 7 to 14 September, will focus on intensive collaboration within the individual creative groups and the joint creation of artworks. During this phase, participants will have the opportunity to get to know one another, share creative approaches and explore ways of moving beyond the boundaries of individual authorship towards collective artistic practice.
The second week, from 15 to 19 September, will be open to the public and will feature an accompanying programme and an exhibition of works created during the symposium. On Tuesday, 15 September, there will be a participatory workshop led by Veronika Vlková and Jan Šrámek, during which participants will create their own collaborative art zine and experience the entire process, from the initial concept and working with different media to printing and hand-binding the final publication. On Thursday, 17 September, the symposium will offer a collective imagination workshop with Katarína Magid Hládeková and Marika Kupková from the curatorial collective Café Utopia. Inspired by the social card game Dixit, the joint activity will allow participants to explore associations, relationships between artworks, as well as possible exhibition narratives and concepts. “Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the exhibited works and the concept of the symposium itself during a guided tour on Friday, 18 September,” say members of the všuderajče collective.Loňský ročník sympozia. | Author: FFA BUT
