In addition to instructors from FEEC BUT, experts from the University of Defence were also involved in the summer school, with whom the faculty has a long-standing cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. Lecturers Petr Gallus and Dominik Staněk from the Department of Informatics and Cyber Operations introduced participants to malware analysis and security aspects of artificial intelligence. “Cybersecurity today is a vast domain, and different institutions may specialize in various areas. Thanks to the involvement of experts from the University of Defence, we were able to expand the summer school with additional important topics, where these experts shared their unique knowledge and experience,” adds summer school organizer Willi Lazarov. Cybersecurity is a key topic in today's world. | Author: Zdeňka Koubová The summer school's program combined theoretical lectures with hands-on exercises in virtual simulated scenarios as well as on real devices. Students became familiar with information security, learning about the most common cyber threats and how to defend against them. A strong emphasis was placed on ethical hacking to discover vulnerabilities and on industrial security, particularly with a focus on critical infrastructure. In the section dedicated to artificial intelligence, participants learned about large language models and how to work with them effectively, including jailbreak techniques to bypass their limitations. “The summer school had a significant positive impact. Students showed great interest especially in ethical hacking and malware analysis,” says Willi Lazarov. The success of the event is also evident from the fact that a large portion of the 24 participants are considering continuing their studies in Information Security at FEEC BUT. The summer school was attended by 24 participants. | Author: Nikola Číková Among the most active participants was Simona Havelková from the Střední průmyslová škola Třebíč: “I found out about the summer school from my cybersecurity teacher and didn’t hesitate to apply. I especially liked how the BUTCA platform is designed, and I was very interested in Willi Lazarov’s lecture on the broader context of cybersecurity.” Enthusiasm was also expressed by Matyáš Svoboda from the Gymnázium Brno, třída Kapitána Jaroše: “On the very first day I learned about penetration testing, which I thought was really cool, and I also enjoyed discovering vulnerabilities in the wastewater treatment plant. I could have easily done the whole week.” Due to the rapid filling of capacity during registration and the positive feedback from participants, the faculty plans to open the summer school again next year to offer the opportunity to more cybersecurity enthusiasts.
