Summer at BUT marked by international student visits

Over the summer, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication BUT (FEEC) welcomed students and prospective students from France (in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Management), the U.S., and Ukraine. The international guests explored the teaching, research facilities, student projects, and study opportunities at BUT.

Students from the Paris-based school ISEP – École d’ingénieurs du numérique spent a month at BUT. At FEEC and the Faculty of Business and Management, they focused on expert communication, intercultural competencies, and business management. The program also included visits to the technology companies Thermo Fisher Scientific and Honeywell. The visit built on the long-term partnership between BUT and ISEP focused on international student mobility.

Eighteen young people from the U.S. also visited Brno as part of the Cross Cultural Pathways for Young Leaders summer school. At BUT, they visited, for example, the CyberGrid laboratory and met the student teams Brno Mars Rover, YSpace, and the Drone Research Center. The program is designed for young Americans with Czech roots or an interest in Czech culture and studying in the Czech Republic.

FEEC also welcomed a group of Ukrainian applicants for bachelor’s degree programs. During the visit, they learned about the range of study programs, the admissions process, and student life, and had the opportunity to discuss practical issues related to studying at BUT with faculty representatives.

These summer visits showcase the various facets of BUT’s internationalization – ranging from long-term study stays to short introductory programs to outreach efforts targeting prospective international students. The common goal is to open the university to the international community and create opportunities for further academic and professional collaboration. “We believe that personal experience with the university environment can inspire many of them to return to the Czech Republic in the future to study or conduct research,” said Stanislav Klusáček, FEEC Vice Dean for Internationalization.
