Are you interested in topics that shape what’s happening at Brno University of Technology? Tune in to the latest episode of the internal podcast VUT’s up?, which through interviews offers insights into key issues and behind-the-scenes perspectives from the university. This time, the focus is on artificial intelligence, its benefits, risks, and practical applications. Another guest on the VUT's up? podcast is BUT AI ambassador Petr Koňas. | Author: Václav Koníček Today’s guest is artificial intelligence expert Petr Koňas, who serves as the university’s AI Ambassador. In the podcast, he discusses the opportunities and risks associated with artificial intelligence and explains how it is currently being used at BUT. He describes how AI can be applied in studies, research, teaching, and administration, when it is necessary to set clear boundaries, and what practices people should follow to avoid compromising data security. Petr Koňas’ main message is that AI is not a replacement for humans, but a tool. Its meaningful use always depends on people’s ability to use it properly, understand its limitations, and develop critical thinking. In the light-hearted closing questions, he reveals what he would like artificial intelligence to handle for him forever, whether he is more of a paper or digital type, and which of his hobbies would surprise his colleagues the most. “I have no illusions that students don’t use AI. On the other hand, I am also a teacher, I meet with students, and it really comes down to discussion, setting clear boundaries, and, even more importantly, feedback. That means if I allow students to use AI, it is essential to go through their results with them afterwards. I believe that helps them much more than a one-way approach – here is the assignment, here is the solution,” explains AI expert Petr Koňas.
