Majáles 2026 in pictures: BUT Shone in the Parade, the University Zone and on Stage

The month of student celebrations traditionally culminated in Brno Majáles. The festival full of concerts, fun, and great atmosphere once again featured Brno University of Technology with its university zone, royal couple, and amazing royal guard, setting Brno ablaze with a passion for technology!

Brno Majáles symbolizes the celebration of student life and brings together all five Brno universities. Their representatives jointly raise the Maypole, take part in the traditional Majáles parade, and represent their universities throughout the festival. The celebrations culminate in the coronation of the Majáles king and queen, who become the symbolic rulers of Brno for the following year.

This year, one of the crowns returns to BUT – the title of king was won by Filip from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering! Together with him, the royal sceptre was also taken over by the new queen Hanka from the University of Defence, replacing last year’s royal couple from MENDELU.

Majáles Day started at Freedom Square, where supporters of Brno University of Technology, Masaryk University, Mendel University, the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno, and the University of Defence gathered together. From Freedom Square, a colourful parade led by allegorical floats headed towards the Brno Exhibition Centre. Students and graduates of BUT shone in red, while the BUT float was ruled by the royal couple together with Mikolas.

At the festival itself, the university presented itself in the BUT zone, where visitors could try a variety of technical experiments as well as sports and knowledge-based challenges. Thanks to its location directly opposite the main stage and close to the observation tower featuring the BUT logo and lettering, Brno University of Technology was truly impossible to miss.

During the afternoon, the university zone was also visited by BUT Rector Ladislav Janíček and other members of the university leadership, who greeted the royal couple and student teams and discussed with them the technologies they are currently developing.

As part of their Majáles duties, the royal couples faced introducing themselves to the audience and performing a royal show. During the performance, which also involved the close royal guard, the BUT students followed this year’s theme Passion for Technology. They amazed the audience with an energetic dance performance full of impressive tricks!

And the passion for technology and all the Majáles activities paid off! BUT has a new king – Filip from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – and after two years, the university once again rules Brno.
