Majáles 2026: I want us all to enjoy it together, says the King of BUT

He is devoted to traditions, enjoys humor and good fun, and describes himself as a friendly extrovert. Candidate for the King of Brno Majáles, Filip Stupka, is studying the bachelor’s program Professional Pilot at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT. Last year, he was part of the royal entourage and the Majáles events grew close to his heart. This year, he returns as a candidate for king with one goal – to enjoy this unique ride to the fullest.

Filip’s journey into aviation did not begin traditionally at an airport or in a cockpit. He became fascinated by the aviation environment through videos, and an innocent interest gradually turned into a decision to pursue aviation professionally. “I had never even sat in a small aircraft before. Gradually, I started to find out what it involves, and when I discovered I could study aviation at BUT, it was a clear choice for me as someone from Brno,” he recalls, adding that he has not regretted his decision in the slightest.

Today, he already has his first pilot experience, and flying has become a natural part of his life. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he plans to continue his studies and gradually move toward commercial aviation. He is particularly attracted to large aircraft and working for airlines. “At the beginning, it’s always about where you get the opportunity. But the more flight hours you have, the more you can choose,” Filip explains, adding that one day he would like to fly, for example, to New Zealand.

When he’s not spending time in classrooms or in the air, he dances and leads a traditional feast group in Brno–Jehnice. In his free time, he also enjoys traveling. “In the summer, we are planning a family trip to the United States, and I hope I’ll manage to arrange some flying there as well. Due to their authorities, I need special permission,” says Filip enthusiastically. It’s clear he has plenty of energy, which is why he has added Brno Majáles to his list this year.

From the Cockpit to the Stage

He first got involved in Majáles last year. “I didn’t become king, but I made it into the close royal guard and got to see how everything works. I met great people and experienced an atmosphere that really caught me, so I decided to try again this year. And this time, it worked,” laughs this year’s king for BUT. For him, a great team and shared experiences are the most important things. “I want this year’s Majáles to be unforgettable not only for me, but especially for everyone who takes part,” he adds.

Filip is most looking forward to the parade, but also to the program itself in the festival area. “Our royal performance has to have an idea and ideally a story. We want it to be visually engaging and enjoyable for people,” he says. Together with the royal guard, he also aims for their performance to reflect this year’s theme, which is Passion for Technology. “I truly appreciate the opportunity to represent our university, and I believe we will show everyone what amazing people study at BUT!” he declares determinedly.

And why does he want to become the King of Brno Majáles? To be part of something that brings people together, to support a diverse student community, and to spread good vibes. In this year’s edition, he brings not only enthusiasm for technology but also openness and a natural joy of being part of the action, which reflects his approach to life. “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than the ones I haven’t,” Filip concludes.
