She is not afraid of challenges, loves discovering new places, and describes herself as a stubborn yet optimistic go-getter. Kristýna Suszková, a candidate for Queen of Brno Majáles, is in her final year of the follow-up Master’s programme in Civil Engineering – Structures and Transport Constructions at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Brno University of Technology. She has never personally attended Majáles before, and is therefore determined to experience her premiere to the fullest – straight in the role of queen. This year's queen representing BUT is Kristýna Suszková. | Author: Václav ŠirokýKristýna comes from the Beskydy Mountains, and her path to engineering was not entirely straightforward. Already in secondary school, she leaned towards creative fields, but also considered studying architecture or defence. In the end, she chose civil engineering and would not change her decision today. “I’m really glad it turned out this way. I’ve grown really fond of BUT,” she says with a smile, even though she admits that the studies can be demanding at times, especially in terms of time.Alongside her studies, she is actively involved in student life. She is part of the FCE Team and BRIDGE Hub, where she helps organise various events, and this year she also represented her faculty at the Gaudeamus education fairs for the first time. “I only started getting more involved at the beginning of my fourth year. I felt like I was almost at the end of university and had only been sitting over projects. I wanted to change that, experience student life to the fullest and make the most of it,” explains this year’s BUT queen. She is actively involved in student teams at the faculty. | Author: Václav ŠirokýIt was precisely this openness to new experiences that led her to Majáles. One of her inspirations was a former roommate who had gone through the same role. “I always liked it, but I didn’t have the courage. Now I started to be more afraid of not trying it and missing out,” Kristýna describes, admitting that she did not expect to succeed. “I saw it as coming to the selection and gaining another experience. That’s why it surprised me even more that it worked out. I’m still getting used to the role of queen,” she laughs.
In life, she follows a simple rule – she has nothing to lose. “When I go into something like this, I always ask myself what the worst thing that can happen is. At most, I’ll embarrass myself,” she explains lightly, adding that people won’t remember it anyway after some time. What she is most looking forward to is Majáles itself and the moment she gets to stand on stage in front of such a large audience. “It will be a big challenge for me, and I’m curious what it will do to me, especially mentally,” she reflects. At the same time, she believes that the performance she is preparing with her royal guard will capture attention. The crown is being sought by her and her royal partner, Philip. | Author: Václav ŠirokýThe central theme of this year’s royal couple is fire – a symbol of energy, passion, and inner drive. “It’s an element you can work with very creatively and that will definitely catch people’s attention,” adds Kristýna, noting that fire is also personally close to her. Together with her royal partner, she also wants to show that technical fields have their own charm and inspire others to find their own passion for technology.Although this is her first time attending Majáles, she already sees it as the ultimate student experience – full of challenges, friendships, and new opportunities. When asked why she should win the title of Queen of Brno Majáles, she answers clearly and without great ambition. “For me, winning is already becoming the Queen of BUT. I don’t want to push it. I mainly want to enjoy Majáles and represent my university well. I see it as an opportunity to give back to BUT everything it has given me,” she concludes humbly. She considers Majáles to be one of the most intense moments of student life. | Author: Václav ŠirokýYou can already vote for Queen Kristýna on the Brno Majáles website – vote for the queen! If you don’t want to miss any updates, follow the university’s social media or the Instagram profile VUT at Majáles.Related articles:
