Starting tomorrow, the Brno University Hospital campus in Bohunice will be transformed into an unconventional gallery. The exhibition and walking programme In Health and in Sickness, running from 25 August to 25 October, brings together contemporary art, architecture, and the theme of physical and mental healthcare. The project also features a significant contribution from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology.The project is curated by FFA lecturer Šárka Svobodová and Klára Eliášová from 4AM – Forum for Architecture and Media. Through a series of contemporary art installations and expert-guided walks across the modernist campus of Brno University Hospital, they explore how the hospital environment shapes our experience of treatment, interpersonal relationships, and care itself. Three new site-specific artistic interventions by Medard Zeman, a FFA doctoral student, Lucie Rosenfeldová, and Andi Schmied will be temporarily installed throughout the hospital grounds and interiors.The installations build on the now-discontinued post-war practice of integrating visual art into public institutions. They offer site-specific interventions and reflections that address both physical and mental care within the highly structured and systematic environment of a hospital. The works focus on the individual undergoing treatment as well as on the constantly evolving organism of the hospital campus, which continually adapts to the changing demands of modern medicine. At the same time, they highlight the importance of sharing experiences and fostering supportive communities that help alleviate the loneliness often associated with challenging moments of treatment.The programme also includes themed guided walks led by experts in architecture, sociology, and healthcare. These walks offer visitors a fresh perspective on the modernist Brno University Hospital campus and on the role of public space in the healing process.The project is organised by 4AM – Forum for Architecture and Media with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the City of Brno, the Czech State Cultural Fund, and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology.
