Giant Planets and Space Exploration: BUT participates in the Festival of Planets

Brno's Festival of Planets is returning to Kraví hora once again! Visitors can look forward to a unique journey through the universe featuring giant planet models, exhibitions, and a rich accompanying programme. BUT will also be part of the festival, showcasing its space-related activities and entertaining audiences with its popular Chemistry Show.

The Festival of Planets Brno, taking place on 6–12 July and 3–9 August, is a unique exhibition of giant inflatable models of celestial bodies. The iconic planets and other space objects that have become the symbol of the festival were designed by multimedia architects and BUT alumni Michal Oklešťka and Jan Machát from the VISUALOVE studio. Visitors can admire Singulona, Heliosphere, Lunalon, Temnalon, Marsmelon, and this year's new addition – Gigalon, featuring the four largest moons of Jupiter.

The programme will also include a panel exhibition presenting BUT's space activities. Brno University of Technology is one of the leading institutions in the Czech Republic in the fields of space technologies and education. The exhibition will introduce projects through which the university contributes to the advancement of space technology and research – from satellite development and student engineering teams to collaborations with Czech and international partners in the space sector.

Visitors can also enjoy the traditional Chemistry Show, prepared by experts from the Faculty of Chemistry BUT. As part of the accompanying programme, university chemists will perform a series of spectacular experiments, introducing the fascinating world of chemistry to audiences of all ages in an entertaining and engaging way.

In addition, the festival programme includes digital planetarium shows, talks at Gigalon, an open-air cinema with a space theme, and exhibitions such as Jupiter's Wonderful World and The Phenomenon of Black Holes. The event takes place only in favourable weather conditions, and admission to the outdoor exhibitions is free.

The Festival of Planets was established in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first human landing on the Moon. It is organised by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium in cooperation with the artistic collective VISUALOVE and Kubíček Visionair, which manufactures the inflatable planet models.
