(Non)Monuments – everyday, overlooked, debated and questioned. The fourth edition of the international conference Landscape Settlements Monuments 2026 will this year be held in the spirit of a theme that challenges the boundaries of traditionally understood values. The event will take place on 29 April at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology. Registration is required to attend. The theme (NON)MONUMENTS opens a discussion on what we consider culturally or historically significant today. This year, experts will focus on buildings, structures and places that usually fall outside the core of heritage protection – yet still possess identity, stories and value for society and the evolving urban environment. The conference aims to encourage a new perspective on how to evaluate, protect and interpret these layers of our surroundings.“Every year, we strive to open a topic that has the potential to move the debate on cultural landscapes and heritage forward. This year’s (non)monuments are an opportunity to look at our surroundings through a different lens – not only through major, officially protected values, but also through small, everyday places that shape our cities and landscapes,” said Adam Guzdek, the conference’s academic guarantor from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT.The conference will connect experts from universities, professional practice and public administration, offering an interdisciplinary perspective on transformations in architecture, urbanism, landscape and cultural values. Following peer review, selected contributions will be published in the reviewed proceedings Prostor pro život (Space for Living).Registration is open until 15 April 2026. The programme and application form can be found on the official conference website Landscape Settlements Monuments.
