European University Fencing Cup returns to BUT. The second edition will take place in December

Brno University of Technology (BUT) will on Sunday, 7 December 2025 host the European University Fencing Cup for the second time. The tournament for students of European colleges and universities builds on last year’s successful inaugural edition, which launched a new tradition at BUT connecting university sport, international cooperation, and the spirit of fencing. The semifinals will again take place in the historic halls of the BUT Rectorate courtyard.

The tournament is intended for students of European colleges and universities. The preliminary rounds up to the quarterfinals will take place at Sokol Brno 1 (Kounicova 20). The semifinal and final bouts will move at 17:00 to the Rectorate courtyard of BUT (Antonínská 1).

Fencing is a sport that combines physical preparedness with high levels of tactics, concentration, and precision. It is often described as "chess in motion" – every decision, attack, and defense must be fast, well thought-out, and technically executed. Spectators can look forward to an exciting and sophisticated competition, where experience, strategy, and quick reactions decide the outcome.

"After the very positive response to last year’s edition, we are delighted that the European University Fencing Cup is returning to BUT. It is a great opportunity for student fencers from across the continent not only to represent their universities but also to build new sporting and personal friendships," says Václav Kundera from the BUT Sports Activity Centre, who is the director of the European University Fencing Cup.

The tournament is organized by the BUT Sports Activity Centre under the patronage of the Rector of Brno University of Technology, Ladislav Janíček, and with support from VSK VUT Brno, the Czech Fencing Association, and the Czech University Sports Association. Registration is possible via the online form, and the entry fee is 20 EUR or 500 CZK. Competitors must present valid proof of study or graduation in 2024. The number of participants is unlimited.

Brno, as a dynamic university city, offers participants many opportunities for exploration – from Špilberk Castle and Villa Tugendhat to the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul.
