EDU Workshop: Developing Teaching Competencies at BUT

Another session of the EDU Workshop is starting at BUT in Brno: a course on teaching competencies designed for all beginning instructors and students in doctoral programs, as well as more experienced instructors who want to take their teaching to the next level. The course is designed for those seeking inspiration, practical tips, and a space to share experiences with colleagues.

“We want to provide a space where instructors can share experiences, develop their competencies, and explore new approaches to effective and inspiring teaching. The purpose of the EDU Workshop is to offer practical methods, but also to foster collegial discussion on current challenges in higher education. This year, we’ve managed to design the course as an MC module culminating in a micro-certificate. We’d be delighted if you’d join the community of instructors who are advancing teaching at BUT,” says course coordinator Martina Repková.

The course offers an interactive approach—instead of long lectures, participants can expect group work, practical demonstrations, and discussions of specific real-world examples. It also includes e-learning support with study materials and links to help you apply what you’ve learned to your own teaching. The course includes 44 hours of in-person instruction and 60 hours of distance learning.

This year, the course is being offered for the first time as an MC module leading to a microcertificate.

What will the EDU workshop offer participants?

  • They will learn to plan and structure lessons to better engage students.
  • They will discover modern, student-centered methods that work even at the university level.
  • They will improve their ability to communicate clearly and provide constructive feedback.
  • They will gain hands-on experience using technology and AI effectively in the classroom.
  • They will acquire tools for working with diverse groups of students and for redesigning their own courses.

Together with the participants, the instructors will also focus on the current challenges of today’s higher education environment—from the changing expectations of Generation Z to the growing diversity of students, to the new possibilities offered by artificial intelligence and digital tools. The goal is for participants to leave the course not only with new knowledge and skills, but also with a desire to try out new approaches in their teaching.

The course will run from September 24, 2026, to April 22, 2027, always once every 14 days on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Continuing Education and Counselling Centre (located in the building of the Faculty of Chemistry at BUT). If you have any questions, please contact Martina Repková. If you are interested in the course, you can after logging in register here.
