BUT awarded the best athletes of 2025

Brno University of Technology (BUT) has announced its best athletes of 2025. The ceremonial meeting with university leadership took place on Thursday, 26 February, in the stucco hall of the Rectorate. Nearly 30 athletes attended the event, receiving congratulations for their sporting achievements from BUT Rector Ladislav Janíček, Bursar Petr Tesař, and Head of Marketing Markéta Soukupová. The ceremony was hosted by CESA Director Hana Lepková.

Students at Brno University of Technology have a wide range of opportunities for sports and personal development. And they are truly talented athletes. In 2025, they excelled in several competitions. A total of 39 talented students participated in the Athlete of the Year 2025 poll. Based on their outstanding results in federation and academic competitions, 11 of the best were selected – participants and medalists of world championships, along with 4 top academic athletes from Brno universities – participants of world university games and 1 para-athlete. Academic champions of the Czech Republic and successful representatives in university and European competitions were also highlighted at the ceremony.

Rector Ladislav Janíček in his speech highlighted BUT’s high-quality sports facilities, the support for student and staff athletes, and the importance of sport as an attractive feature for prospective students. He also mentioned the possibility of combining sports with studies, for example through individual study plans, and emphasized that the university plans to further develop sports activities and invest in their facilities.
